sci-fi

For my major work I will be attempting to present a history of the sci-fi genre from its very inception to how the genre has evolved and changed in popular culture nowadays. How the genre has been ingrained into pop culture and the many fans who enjoy the works of sci-fi. The genres appeal to different people and ages, the people responsible for its creation, the special effects and technological side, and I will also be analysising the classics, everything from classic movies such as Star trek and George Lucas' Star Wars to the long running Doctor Who series.

Sci-fi is a genre which most people grow up knowing. It has become part of our very culture. A lot of people today know one classic one liners from a sci-fi movie even if they have never seen the movie. "May the force be with you" and "I sense a disturbance in the force" are two terms which are synonymous with science-fiction, most people have heard at least once. As part of my work I plan to show the popularity of sci-fi amongst the fans and the popular culture today.

I will also be showcasing the technological side of science fiction. Science fiction is a mixture of both science and fiction and I will be researching the scientific and technological side of the genre and how this has changed over time due to improvements in special effects. I will be showing the the technology used in the movies and special effects used to create this. Everything from time machines, spaceship to the classic light-saber.

Along with information about teh genre I will also be showing and talking about teh classic sci-fi movies and shows that have been loved by many and continue to draw fans. I will be talking about movies such as Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who, Back to teh Future, The Matrix and a few more. I will be researching and showing the qualities that all these movies seem to share which seems to appeal to the fans. All the classics seem to have something in common which makes them so entertaining. Is it the technology and effects or the story?

The people responsible for its creation. People like H.G. Wells, George Lucas and Jules Verne whose literary works inspired and created the science-fiction genre. Their books and movies still inspire film-makers and writers to this day. H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds has been adapted into a blockbuster movie as well as George Lucas' Star Wars Series. I will talk about the influence that these people have had on the entire genre from then till now.
